2020 Dr. Loosen Graacher Domprobst GG

Graacher Domprobst

Rich in extract and firmly structured, this wine comes from the slate soil slopes at the heart of the finest, southwest-facing vineyards in the village of Graach.

Grosses Gewächs (GG)

[German equivalent to "Great Growth“]

The GG wines represent the great potential of our dry Mosel Rieslings from Grosse Lage (Grand Cru) vineyards. All of our spontaneously-fermented Grosses Gewächs wines are given a twelve month maturing period on the lees in old oak barrels (3000l and 1000l) before bottling. This ensures that the wine has an extra dose of elegance and structure for a long life.

The Mosel’s stony soil and numerous rocky outcroppings warm the vineyards by reflecting sunlight and holding the heat of the day. This creates very warm microclimates in the best sites and helps to ensure excellent ripeness. The dark,multi-colored slate in Bernkastel and Graach produces wines with notes of herbs, pronounced flavors of citrus and stone fruits, with a firm mineral structure.

J. Christopher 93 points 2017 Abbey Ridge Pinot Noir (Dundee Hills). This delicious bottle includes fruit from the original 40-year-old vines, which shows through in the delicacy and detail across the palate. Rhubarb, pomegranate, raspberry and cherry fruit flavors are in play, along with a trail of cola and cocoa. Excellent texture and length complete this gulpable charmer. Editors’ Choice. —P.G.
